University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire
+ Project Information
Kingsbury Hall, on the campus of the University of New Hampshire, was renovated in 2007 and an interior courtyard was created. This courtyard was never landscaped and is in dire need of a design that meets the needs of the varied users, faculty, staff, students and grounds maintenance personnel. Woodburn & Company met with the varied users and developed two alternative designs for this space. One design created a lush, organic, garden that softens the lines of the building. The second option was a more modernist, crisp layout that reflects the character of the architecture. Both solutions are low maintenance with the option of using no-mow grass mix or synthetic turf. Areas of seating for quiet socializing are included as well as a café area that accommodates a large tent for Engineering Department functions.
